Impact Stories: Local Governance Programme, 2011 – 2013
The Nicaragua Local Governance Programme (LGP) is a five-year program financed by USAID and implemented by Global Communities. The goal of LGP is to strengthen citizen participation and the capacity of civil society organizations to engage and influence key decision makers in order to improve local governance and development. LGP aims to:
1. Promote the exercise of citizens’ rights and responsibilities in governance and local development
2. Strengthen civil society organizational capacity to successfully advocate on behalf of their citizens
3. Foster and support the demand for a more open and transparent budgeting process by enabling civil society to provide feedback to budget decision makers and encourage budget oversight
