In keeping with the spirit of Ramadan and as part of its social mission, Vitas Palestine hosted a Ramadan iftar for 85 orphans and staff at the SOS Children’s Village in the city of Bethlehem. (Iftar is the communal meal served at the end of the day during Ramadan to break the day’s fast.) Vitas Palestine team distributed iftar meals and clothes to the children in celebration of Eid (the holiday that marks the end of Ramadan).
The event was organised in collaboration with a local radio station, 24FM Palestine. In a radio interview, Alaa Sisalem, the General Manager of Vitas Palestine explained that sponsoring such events is part of Vitas Palestine’s social mission. He also stressed that all organizations should allocate an annual budget to help and develop the lives of those who are most in need. Sisalem continued by saying, “This Ramadan, we at Vitas Palestine decided to have iftar with the orphans to share our love and so we can help them see the beauty in life.”
Sisalem also thanked that staff and administration at the SOS Children’s Village for the amazing system they have created based on small group homes with each group having their own “mom” so that the children feel the spirit of living in a real home.
As part of its social mission, Vitas Palestine supports job creation, home improvement, education, medical treatments and small business development. Since its inception in 1995, Vitas Palestine has disbursed 32,000 loans worth $132 million, improved the housing conditions for almost 19,600 families, and helped develop more than 9,300 small businesses.
At the end of his interview, Sisalem highlighted the role that local media must play in reminding all Palestinian companies of their social responsibility, not only during Ramadan, but throughout the year since it should be every organization’s mission to help people in need and strive to provide them with better living conditions.
