Healthy Start San Bernardino

Promoting healthy pregnancies, successful deliveries, and thriving families

We aim to empower expectant and new parents from pregnancy through the postpartum period with midwife-led prenatal and childbirth education, new parent groups led by lactation professionals, doula support services, mental health counseling, and personalized guidance navigating birth and postpartum resources.

Global Communities’ Healthy Start San Bernardino offers a comprehensive list
of free maternal health services to residents of San Bernardino County.

Our Approach

Global Communities is committed to helping every child get a strong start in life. Funded by the United States Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Healthy Start expands access to perinatal care for parents in San Bernardino County, particularly those living in communities experiencing higher-than-average maternal and infant health risks. The program uses a personalized, parent-centered approach to strengthen family well-being and improve birth outcomes.

Healthy Start San Bernardino provides free prenatal and childbirth education, postpartum and breastfeeding assistance, mental health services, doula support, and hands-on help navigating birth and postpartum resources. These services help improve maternal and infant health outcomes and reduce infant mortality by addressing gaps in perinatal care and inconsistent access to services.

Community Health Workers, known as care coordinators, offer telehealth visits from pregnancy through a child’s first 18 months. Enrolled parents can also be connected to midwifery care, doula and lactation services, and additional community resources as needed.

Community Consortium

The Community Consortium brings together community members, service providers, and partners committed to improving birth outcomes in San Bernardino County. This collaborative effort addresses the community and environmental factors that influence perinatal health, with attention to areas experiencing higher-than-average maternal and infant health challenges.

Through monthly meetings and action-focused workshops, members identify priorities and advance projects that improve access to care, strengthen support systems for parents, and address environmental conditions that affect family well-being.

The Community Consortium builds partnerships across sectors, offers learning and collaboration opportunities, and ensures community perspectives inform decisions and programs. Join us in advancing practical solutions that support healthier pregnancies, stronger families, and better outcomes for babies across San Bernardino County.
