Malawi has the highest preterm birth rate in the world, at 18%. To improve care for these vulnerable babies, PCI's Every Preemie-SCALE project designed and implemented the innovative Family-Led Care model in collaboration with the Malawi Ministry of Health. The model improves quality of care of early/small babies in health facilities, and empowers families to confidently care for their babies both in the facility and after returning home. At the request of the Ministry of Health, the Family-Led Care model is being scaled up to 11 other districts in the next year, and additional trainers have been equipped to implement the model throughout Malawi.
