Green Apple Week of Service Launches in Bangalore, India

Global Communities and Christ University launched it’s second annual Green Apple Day of Service week, highlighting on the theme “eco-friendly practices.” This is the beginning of a week-long series of events which aims to bring together students, volunteers and the community to advocate for a healthier and more sustainable Bangalore.
The first day kicked off with more than 200 students participating in a rally and street play performances in neighborhood slum communities to raise awareness about protecting the environment and hygienic living. As green leaders in their communities, these students will continue to raise awareness about promoting a healthy living environment.
The Green Apple events will continue the whole week with visits to Christ University’s Zero Waste campus and Green Building. There will be an orientations on topics such as conservation and e-waste, tree planting drives in schools and inter-school competitions. Corporate volunteers will be involved in mural painting at a dry waste collection center. Through the Green Apple campaign, students, teachers, parents and corporation partners will come together in support of healthy, sustainable environments.
About Green Apple Day of ServiceGreen Apple Day of Service gives individuals, companies and organizations the opportunity to transform schools into healthy, safe, cost-efficient and productive learning places. This campaign is powered by volunteers who participate in reaching out to students’ community; media partners, like-minded organizations. Why Global Communities
Global Communities is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is a partner with Center for Green Schools on their new cause to promote healthy learning environments and schools. Global communities – India, is working to promote decentralised waste management, including improved waste collection, recycling of waste and enhancing livelihoods of waste collectors in Bangalore with the support of Caterpillar Foundation.
