Congressman Chris Van Hollen Holds Town Hall with CHF Staff
On Friday, August 29, CHF International welcomed Congressman Chris Van Hollen to an all staff meeting at the Silver Spring Civic Center.
The Congressman addressed the importance of our work, then took questions. A spirited discussion of the value of US investments in international affairs and development took place, in the context of the current major budget reductions.
Congressman Chris Van Hollen is a member of the Democratic Party House leadership. He is currently ranking member of the Budget Committee and was also recently appointed to the “Super Committee” – the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. The Congressman also has an intimate relationship with many of the countries CHF works in: he was born in Karachi, Pakistan, in a foreign service family, and grew up overseas, mostly in South Asia.
This was CHF’s second major event with the Congressman, after he sponsored an exhibition at Congress of our Haiti shelters work in November 2010. Congressman Chris Van Hollen’s 8th District of Maryland contains much of Silver Spring, where CHF is headquartered. CHF thanks the Congressman for his support for our community-based approach to development and looks forward to working together to ensure that we can continue to work with our partner communities around the world in the most effective way, to build a stable, safe and prosperous world.
