Sekondi-Takoradi City Spatial Development Plan

The discovery of oil in Ghana’s Western Region has suddenly opened up many issues that call for urgent action. Expected rapid economic growth and expansion spurred by the oil industry is likely to draw huge populations into the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, whose population is currently about 500,000. With the migration will come many changes, especially increased demand for land for residential, commercial, and industrial purposes. To prevent being caught off guard; a situation which might result in sporadic uncontrolled and illegal physical development, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, with support from CHF International (Global Communities), prepared a City Spatial Development Plan, which is expected to direct development in the Metropolis and efficiently allocate land and optimize spaces.
