Global Communities Testifies at the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on the Humanitarian Crisis in Syria
Yesterday Pia Wanek, Global Communities’ Director of Humanitarian Assistance, spoke at the U.S. House of Representatives Middle East Subcommittee Hearing on Syrian Refugees, along with representatives from Save the Children, CARE International, Mercy Corps and SAMS.
Subcommittee Chairman Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen opened the proceedings with an overview of alarming situation in Syria. More than 150,000 people have been killed, 3 million Syrian refugees are residing in neighboring countries, 6.5 million Syrians are internally displaced and an estimated 10 million are in need of humanitarian assistance. Those impacted most by the crisis are women and children.
