Improving Schools
In 2008 Global Communities began working in Kosovo to improve the educational environment for primary and secondary school students. With funding from USAID, Global Communities constructed new classrooms and rehabilitated existing classroom space to provide safer places for children to learn.
Working closely with the Kosovo Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) and municipal governments, the program leveraged local funding and employed local labor. Gloabl Communities also worked closely with communities so that their priorities were followed, and that they are invested in the repairs. To date, school repairs and improvements completed by Global Communities are benefiting more than 20,000 students.
