USAID Deputy Administrator Visits Katye Project in Haiti
Donald Steinberg, USAID Deputy Administrator, visited CHF’s Katye (neighborhood) project in Ravine Pintade, Haiti on Thursday. Ravine Pintade lost about 75 percent of its structures in the January 12, 2010 earthquake and CHF is working to comprehensively rehabilitate the area using an integrated, community-based approach. By rebuilding all sectors of Ravine Pintade, including the fostering of participatory governance, water and sanitation access, housing and infrastructure access and future disaster prevention, we are enabling people to stay in their own community. This reduces violence, crime and disorder; facilitates access to employment and maintains community cohesion. Through Katye, we are working with the Haitian people to provide a model for how Haiti can build back better.
