“We are extremely pleased to welcome Mr. Rhodes to the Board of Global Communities,” said Robert A. Mosbacher, Jr., Chairman of the Global Communities Board of Trustees. “His expansive experience in international development, with USAID, Peace Corps and the Millennium Challenge Corporation will be invaluable to our work with underserved communities.”
Mr. Rhodes has more than four decades of experience working in international development. His most recent role as Chief of Staff was in many ways a return to the Peace Corps, as he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bolivia from 1968 to 1970, working on community development and agricultural issues in the Andes. Prior to his recent role in the Peace Corps, he worked for a variety of international development institutions including the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Save the Children, and the Institute of International Education (IIE). At MCC, he served as managing director for Latin America before managing compact development for all eligible countries. As director of HIV/AIDS programs at Save the Children, Mr. Rhodes supervised a new program targeting children and youth affected by the disease. And as IIE’s Vice President for global development, he directed and monitored training and capacity building programs across the globe.
From 1978 to 2001, Mr. Rhodes worked as a career foreign service officer at the U.S. Agency for International Development. He served as mission director in South Africa (1998-2001) and for Guatemala and Central American programs (1994-1998). He also directed the Office of Central American Affairs in the Latin American and Caribbean Bureau and served in Haiti, Morocco, and Nepal. Earlier in his career, Mr. Rhodes served as an attorney at the Department of State and in private practice at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver, and Kampelman.
Mr. Rhodes received his Bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Occidental College, a Master’s degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and a Master’s degree in public policy from Duke University’s Sanford Institute. He also holds a law degree from the School of Law (Boalt Hall) at the University of California at Berkeley.
“The staff and trustees of Global Communities are excited to welcome Stacy to our board,” said David A. Weiss, President and CEO of Global Communities. “From his time working at 13,000 feet in the Andes as a Peace Corps volunteer to his most recent role as the Peace Corps’ Chief of Staff, few have the depth of experience in international development that he brings to the table. His tenure on the board will greatly benefit our partners around the globe, and his extensive knowledge and commitment to improving the lives of those in need will help advance our work with the world’s most vulnerable communities.”
