PCI’s CEO Returning to New York to Join Leading Nonprofit

SAN DIEGO—Project Concern International’s (PCI) President & Chief Executive Officer George Guimaraes will step down at the end of the year, returning to the east coast to become CEO of New York Junior Tennis & Learning. Guimaraes has been the head of PCI since 2003, and last year the global humanitarian organization impacted the lives of more than 19 million people.

“George has overseen tremendous growth at PCI during his tenure,” said PCI’s Board of Directors Chair Robert S. Sullivan. “Under George’s leadership over the past 13 years, PCI’s revenue has grown by more than 240 percent, and we have opened seven new country programs, empowering families and communities to impact their own lives and the lives of millions of others.”

Headquartered and founded in San Diego, PCI currently works in 15 countries, including the U.S., to enhance health, end hunger, and overcome hardship. PCI is a leader in efforts in San Diego to prevent human trafficking, and in sub-Saharan Africa, PCI reaches some of the most remote communities to prevent and treat cervical cancer. Every day, PCI provides more than 200,000 school meals to children, encouraging good nutrition. Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, PCI was a leader in helping the island nation rebuild stronger communities, and during the Ebola epidemic in Liberia, PCI worked in two of the most affected counties to prevent the spread of the virus and operated an Ebola Treatment Unit.

“Serving as the President & CEO of PCI has been a tremendous privilege,” said Guimaraes. “What is so special about PCI is the fact we work with communities to develop all of our programs to ensure our work will last for generations to come. With a strong commitment to results and impact, PCI is poised for even more growth in the years to come.”

PCI’s Chief Operating Officer Mark O’Donnell will serve as the Interim CEO as a global search is under way for the organization’s new President & CEO.
