Julie Steiger

Senior Director, Humanitarian Program Operations

Julie Steiger is Senior Director, Humanitarian Program Operations at Global Communities, where she provides support, oversight and strategic direction for the organization’s global humanitarian program portfolio. In this role, she oversees both a US-based and country office leadership, ensuring that programming is delivered on time, to budget and in scope and that teams are working effectively and efficiently.

Steiger’s experience includes both HQ and country-based roles, working with various international non-governmental organizations, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and private sector to oversee the delivery of humanitarian, development and stabilization programming. She has worked in the Africa, Middle East, Europe and Eurasia Regions on humanitarian and stabilization programming including in Chechnya, South Sudan, Jordan (Iraq and Syria refugee response), Turkey, Syria and Ukraine. She has also worked in various countries in the southern Africa region supporting health systems strengthening, malaria and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Her expertise is in the protection sector, organizational development, root cause analysis, context analysis, conflict sensitivity and partnerships.

Steiger has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Russian Studies from the University of Rhode Island, a Master of Arts in Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies from Georgetown University, and completed Executive Women in Leadership and Change Management Certificates from Cornell University. She is also a certified yoga instructor.
