USAID Jordan YouthPower – 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence
Published 12/11/2019 by Global Communities
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. (www.unwomen.org)
The “16 Days of Activism” animated video below was created by the gender and social inclusion learning club under the USAID YouthPower Jordan program, and it summarizes the campaign theme: “#Violence_isnt_power.” A key message in the video is around silence concerning gender-based violence among youth. The video talks about types of gender-based violence and is a call to action to fight such behavior.
The video will be screened at the main event on Wednesday December 18th under the patronage of Dr. Salma Nims, Secretary General of Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW).
