Entrepreneurship Development Activity in Sri Lanka Wins Global Communities “One Good Idea” Award

In 2015, Global Communities’ launched the One Good Idea Award as an opportunity to create, innovate and promote learning from within and capture the innovation and learning that occurs at both the headquarters and field level. The Award, which is supported by the Sanders Family Foundation, allows us to reflect on how we can strengthen our interventions, methodologies, and programming more broadly and use what we capture to position Global Communities as thought leaders in the industry.

This year’s winner, announced on October 1, 2019, is the Entrepreneurship Development activity in Sri Lanka. Proposed by Global Communties’ subsidiary in Jordan, Partners for Good, the Entrepreneurship Development in Sri Lanka activity focuses on engaging youth in solving social issues through economic and business opportunities.
The Entrepreneurship Development in Sri Lanka project will expand the concept of the competitive TV show ‘Mosh Mostaheel’ developed by Partners for Good and currently in its second season in Jordan, to create an attraction and a demand within Sri Lankan youth and the local communities for entrepreneurship and youth self-employment opportunities. The proposal supports a primary goal of the YouLead! project in Sri Lanka of increasing prospects for successful self-employment through the program’s entrepreneurship and access to finance activities in Sri Lanka.
The six month program will:

Create an entrepreneurial and social impact TV show modeled after “Mosh Mostaheel” in Jordan;
Support, incentivize and help create innovative entrepreneurial projects by providing mentoring workshops, tools and guidance resulting in at least 10 entrepreneurial ideas competing on the show and being given financial and technical support for implementation; and
Spread awareness on economic, social and developmental importance of entrepreneurship through key partnerships, social media outreach, pre-program campaigns and the TV show itself.
There were 14 innovative and thought-provoking projects submitted from eight different countries, which made this a very competitive process. We look forward to supporting the teams in Jordan and Sri Lanka as they move forward with implementation.
