Integrated STI and HIV Services for Targeted and Vulnerable Populations in Honduras

The new Global Fund grant will allocate $15.2 million to STI and HIV prevention programs in key populations and prioritized populations, as well as provide care and services for people living with HIV.

The strategies to be implemented are:

I. Reach key prioritized populations through prevention programs or delivery of the defined package of services.
The key populations are:
Men who have sex with men (MSM)
Transgender people
Female sex workers
Prioritized or Vulnerable Populations:
Garífunas
Prisoners
The defined package of services consists of a face-to-face communication strategy as well as defined materials and services such as:
Information on STIs and HIV
Delivery of condoms
Delivery of educational material
Promotion of HIV testing
Population to be reached:
The defined package of services is expected to reach nearly 100,000 people. Nearly 90,000 people will be tested.
II. Care and support for people with HIV
Comprehensive care services will be provided including ART, CD4, viral loading testing and treatment to nearly people with HIV
Support will be given to the opening of 14 health facilities to care for people with HIV
HIV testing of about 200,000 pregnant women in prenatal care as part of prevention strategies for mother-to-child transmission of HIV
ARVs will be provided to 739 pregnant women with HIV; in turn, children born to these mothers will have access to formula to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV
The information system of SESAL will be strengthened in order to have strategic information for decision-making
III. Removal of Legal Barriers
Resolution of complaints of violations of human rights to people with HIV, key populations and prioritized persons
Strengthening the 20 advocacy networks
